Inappropriate at Any Speed

AndyKerr on academic compilers during today's project-wide meeting:

"That depends on how pluggable their backends are . . . so to speak."

In other news, Shooter's sound effects were totally better than The Bourne Supremacy's. I don't know how the Academy passed it over.

I actually decided to watch it at about 8:30pm last night while I was eating supper [grilled salmon fillet + orange/lemon sauce]. BitTorrent can be as convenient as cable on demand sometimes.

The plot was a little predictable, and the motivating action a little flat, but there were a lot of cool scenes with rifles and one with an epic 1911.

I recommend it if you have some free time. You could certainly do a lot worse.

I think the point of the movie was so Hollywood could court patriotic conservative types away from the Republican base. The only way to do that was to make a movie about firearms, a few hot women, and an angry loner who is still passionate for his country. An early 1970s Chevelle SuperSport even made an appearance.

Bourne didn't have one tenth of this going for it. That said, action films in general are a bit silly.
